A wastewater sludge management site located near the State Road 200/A1A intersection, has been the subject of recent citizen complaints/concerns due to odors emitted from the site. The site is owned by Rayonier Advanced Materials (RAYM) and permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
Though the County is not a regulatory agency, it does recognize the community's concerns. As such, on behalf of the citizens, we reached out to RAYM and FDEP requesting that they answer Frequently Asked Questions to provide the public with a better understanding of the operations, as well as information on the causes of the odor and steps that are being taken to mitigate the smell.
The County has requested that RAYM and FDEP host a community meeting in early 2022 to allow residents the opportunity to speak directly with the two organizations. RAYM has indicated that they are amiable to a meeting and will provide us with dates in the coming weeks. We will share that information with the public, once it known.
