Special Needs Emergency Sheltering and Evacuation Assistance
SpNS and Emergency Evacuation Assistance to Public Shelters
Nassau County Emergency Management stresses to all residents:
When an evacuation order is given, it is best to travel to an area outside of the impact zone.  If you have nowhere else to go, emergency public shelters can ensure you have a safe place to "weather the storm", but a public shelter should be your last resort (i.e. Plan B).  They can be crowded and uncomfortable, may have no electricity, and have no privacy.

Nassau County's Special Needs programs are designed for those who have special medical and functional needs and have nowhere else to go, or require government transportation assistance to an emergency public shelter when ordered to evacuate.
